GLP-1 Peptide Hormones are biochemical substances produced in the intestines that play a key role in regulating blood sugar, appetite, and digestion. GLP-1:

  1. Stimulates insulin release
    When you eat, GLP-1 is released from your gut and signals your pancreas to produce insulin (but only when glucose is present) — helping lower blood sugar levels.
  2. Inhibits glucagon
    Glucagon raises blood sugar, but GLP-1 suppresses it after eating, which helps prevent post-meal blood sugar spikes.
  3. Slows gastric emptying
    It slows down how fast food leaves the stomach, which keeps you feeling full longer and reduces appetite.
  4. Reduces appetite
    GLP-1 also acts on the brain to decrease hunger — which is why it’s a target for weight loss drugs.
  5. Promotes satiety
    It helps you feel full sooner, making it easier to eat less.

Does it work? Ozempic is a drug –  a laboratory chemical creation – It works as a simulator (it mimicks) GLP-1 actions, and has been approved as a medication for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. Ozempic is also being prescribed to assist weight loss.
      Drugs have side effects
 Ozempic has a range of potential negative effects including nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, rebound weight gain, acute pancreatitis, mental health issues and “Ozempic face” ( related to appearance of the face after rapid weight loss).

By increasing natural fibre intake, our own human body increases GLP-1 production naturally, by the fibre being fermented by gut bacteria into short-chain fatty acids, which then stimulates L-cells in the intestine to release GLP-1.
